Project Summary

A global leader in manufacturing and supplying steel for building and construction industries, Bluescope were looking to uplift and extend reporting across three departments, ensuring the end user can capture valuable insights and make proactive decisions. I worked together with Bluescope to help define and build a reporting dashboard solution that will enable better insights.

The departments we engaged with were Social Impact & Inclusion, Ethics & Compliance, and Learning Experience. Since each department had their own needs, goals, pain points, stakeholders and end users; the project was broken up into three phases. Based on each department's needs I used rapid prototyping and a cross-functional team format to create usable and feasible dashboards that were implemented into PowerBI.

This case study explores how I collaborated with each department's core stakeholders to bring their vision to life through the following key objectives and deliverables:

  • Engage across the business to discover their needs, pain points, and any reporting being done currently.
  • Communicate this through personas that range from those who input the data, manage the data, and executive team leads that need the data to be glanceable.
  • Validate initial assumptions and create a holistic solution in a collaborative design RapidViz workshop with end-users and key stakeholders. 
  • Rapidly wireframe and prototype data visualisations through our RapidViz process, working closely with representatives across geographies, and implementing a current state. Creating the aspirational key metrics that end-users want to see in a future state report.
  • The reporting needs to support multiple subject areas (e.g. engagement, compliance, trends) and can be filtered by role/time/content. Enable drill-downs and roll-ups, and align into regions and communities across the business.
  • Support developers implementing the report on PowerBI.
